Corporate Go Karting at Hoddesdon
Wednesday, November 1st, 2006Outdoor Go Karting demands a different type of driving skill to the dry. Our most recent visitors to Hoddesdon, Herts, found this out.
Our Corporate clients, Amdocs and T-Mobile, joined numbers to compete in a special corporate go karting evening. Their only obstacle to a fast and furious event, was the weather.
On arrival the clouds above were black and the downpours began. The outlook was bleak but everyone cheerfully went off to their Safety Briefing in the hope that the gokarting conditions might improve.
Once everyone had learnt the go karting flag discipline, special format and rules of the race, it was time for some practise. They were in luck, the rain had stopped but the track was still, never the less, wet.
On went the Waterproofs and after a few slow, apprehensive “lets keep off the tarmac” laps, the group soon got to grips with the slick tyres and twin engine petrol karts. Spins galore! A great spectator sport.
It was soon time for the qualifying races - which drivers would make their way into the Go Karting A final and who would battle out for the compensatory honours in the B final?
Lap times were not quick , conditions did not allow - times varied between 1minute 5 seconds to 1 minute and 20 seconds.
It was a close run thing and the drivers for each final were announced. Some of the better drivers were a little disappointed to begin with, they thought the Hoddesdon Race Director had announced they had only reached the “B” final, but after a few questions they realised they were up there for the A final.
The B final was a 20 minute drive to the line - all having fun and eventually the winner was decided - Rolf Hauk who managed to complete 16 laps and remained 28.20 seconds ahead of his nearest rival - an A final performance.
It must be said, Dhiraj, the driver of Go Kart number 11 in the B final, must have spent most of his evening “off” track - a fast, but it must be said, erratic driver. He was easily 5 seconds quicker than the rest in the B final but only finishing 4th.
Its all about momentum, not, giv’in it some!
The A final was a tense affair. The best drivers is difficult conditions. Everyone rose to the challenge and fought a superb on track battle. A few Yellow flags here and a couple of steward lectures there, meant
Daniel Notcutt took the honours - 16 laps and a mere 42 seconds ahead of his nearest rival - who happened to be the boss! Possibly a bad career move, but hey, worth the gamble.
Daniel also put in a super solo sub minute fastest lap, 59.59 on lap 2 which deservedly earned him the Driver of the Day trophy.
Feedback was great - everyone went home happy and perhaps a little damp but not too much to worry about.
